CENTER TWP. – 2017 was a milestone year in the history of Community College of Beaver County, as the college began its 51st academic year and the start of its second half-century of service to Beaver County and the region. Highlights include:
CCBC graduated 86 high school seniors from the Aviation and Health High School Academies. Of those graduates, all 86 went on to college – including 64 who now attend CCBC full-time.
Practical nursing and phlebotomy students achieved 100 percent pass rates on registry exams.
131 Air Traffic Control students passed an exam qualifying them for a position with the FAA, and 66 of those students were given offer letters to train in Oklahoma City, higher than any other college-based program in the nation.
CCBC student athletes achieved an average GPA of 3.13, higher than their non-athlete peers. Women’s basketball and men’s and women’s cross country launched their inaugural seasons.
CCBC became the lead and host site for the nationally-led, industry-formed Infrastucture meetings to support business and industry connections, and assist in the creation of a highly skilled pipeline for the Appalachian region’s workforce.
CCBC received a $150,000 gift from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation to create and lead the TristateEnergy and Advanced Manufacturing Consortium, consisting of industry leaders, higher education providers, and workforce and economic development boards in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.
The CCBC Foundation received a landmark $1 million gift from the Allegheny Foundation to fund the Phase I expansion of the Process Technology program and purchase a custom-built pilot plant.
CCBC and Geneva College announced a new associate/bachelor’s degree nursing partnership. The college also signed additional transfer agreements with Geneva College, Robert Morris University and other regional institutions, as well as St. Bonaventure University in Olean, New York.
The CCBC Foundation launched its first major gifts campaign. The five-year “Expanding Pathways – Achieving Success” campaign seeks $12 million in donor investment to support student success, workforce development and campus technology initiatives.
CCBC, Geneva College, Penn State-Beaver and Robert Morris University unveiled the Bridges and Pathways College Partnership, a consortium dedicated to improving the lives of Beaver Valley residents through access to education, cultural events and economic opportunities.
