Spring Serenade Choreography by George Balanchine OThe George Balanchine Trust Spring Gala - featuring George Balanchine's La Source and the "Scherzo" from A Midsummer Night's Dream As part of the repertoire for their upcoming Spring Gala performances Saturdav. April 27 at 7 pm Sunday, April 28 at 2 pm at the Upper St. Clair High School Theater (Saturday, April 27 at 7pm, and Sunday, April 28 at 2pm), the Ballet Academy of Pittsburgh wil be pre Upper St. Clair High Schoolperome in senting George Balanchine's La Source a masterpiece work never before never beloa Staged by former Ballet Academy of Pittsburgh faculty member and New York City Ballet dancer Lindy Mandradjieff, La Source was premiered by the New York City Ballet on November 23, 1968. Inspired by 19th cen tury French ballet and music, George Balanchine choreographed La Source to the music of French composer Leo Delibes, and from two of Delibes' ballets - Naila and Sylvia. Set to the music of Felix Mendelssohn, this is the first time that the Ballet Academy of Pitts- burgh will be performing this ballet, and staged by former New York City Ballet dancer Garielle Whittle repetiteur for The George Balanchine Trust, The Jerome Robbins Trust, and Christopher Wheeldon. Considered the father of American ballet, and greatest choreographer of the 20th century, George Balanchine founded the New York City Ballet and The School of American Ballet, and his works are performed by professional companies all over the world.
