"It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood..." at THE SPRING HOUSE Spring is In the Air on the Farm! (We don't even charge extra for that Farm Fresh Aroma in the parking lot!) Wow! Isn't Spring a great time of year! The heifers in the field are just loving getting out in the sunshine and grazing in that front pasture too! And the milking herd is eyeing up the pastures around their freestall barn; as soon as everything dries up they'll be out there under the moonlight every night. Some may even kick up their heels when they "hit the hills of Pennsylvania"! Speaking of cows, did you know that we are currently milking 120 Happy Cows that make amazing Happy Milk! The milk those cows make is hauled over to The SpringHouse where we process and bottle our milk. We actually do 2 steps as we prepare the milk for our shelves. We pasteurize the milk in a UHTS pasteurizing system (where the milk is heated to 171 °F for a few seconds and then cooled back down to 40°F real fast to minimize a cooked flavor of the milk). Then the milk is homogenized which means the 3% natural butterfat is "smashed to smithereens" (as we tell the tour kids) so your milk stays white when you take it home, rather than the fat rising to the top. Just a little education lesson for your newspaper reading time! Spring Dairy Farm Tours And speaking of cows, now is the time to sign up on-line for your group's farm tour!! May is actually starting to fill up, now that the weather is warming up and folks are thinking about what they can do outside! Milk a cow, feed a baby calf, visit the cows at the barnyard, and top it all off with an ice cream cone!! $6/person for group of 25 or more or $150 for a group up to 25. Weekend Eats This Saturday: Spice Rubbed Ribs, Breaded Boneless Pork Chops, Red-Glazed BarBQ Chicken Assorted Pieces, Scalloped Potatoes, Fried Cabbage with Bacon and Onions, and lots more. This Sunday: Chicken & Gravy over Buttermilk Biscuit, Celebration Chicken Romano, Italian Lasagna, Hand Peeled Mashed Potatoes, and all your favorite sides. 724-228-3339 www.springhousemarket.com 1531 Rte. 136 Washington, PA 15301 New Hours: starting 3/20/19 Monday - Saturday: 9am-7pm Sunday: Noon-7pm Off *2020* BEST OF THE best Perving Our Dmy ace 18 FIRST PLACE Obseruer Reperter "Let us share a little of our farm with you."
