MAKING AN IMPACT Reflections on a Decade of Giving During this season of Giving Our sincere thanks to everyone who made a gift through WCCF Gives. Over the past ten years, this annual event has transformed the way many local charities fundraise for unrestricted support. WCCF Gives What prompted the WCCF to initiate a day of giving in Washington County? From the beginning, we wanted to support many of our local charities in a significant way. But in 2013 our grant-making assets were limited, which restricted the number of charities we could support each year. Hosting a day of giving enabled us to provide unrestricted grants to more than 100 local charities. Even though our grant-making assets have grown over time, WCCF Gives is still the activity that enables us to support the greatest number of charities each year. Were you the first community foundation to host a day of giving? No, but the giving day concept originated in the community foundation arena. After watching other community foundations host their own giving days, we learned from their experiences and customized our event to serve our community. An important element of that was selecting a web provider with a solid performance record to ensure optimal reliability and functionality. How has WCCF Gives been received by local charities? Extremely well! For some charities, WCCF Gives is their primary activity to raise money to meet their missions. Jennifer Dann of the Washington County Watershed Alliance, said that "The WCCF Gives event is our single largest fundraiser for the year. Without this event our organization would not raise enough funds to cover our annual expenses. And for other charities, WCCF Gives provides the opportunity to reach a wider audience. "WCCF Gives is a strategic and brilliant campaign that helps us focus on increasing public visibility and awareness, explained Brandi Miller from the Literacy Council of SWPA. We are a small non-profit, and this campaign helps us spread the word about our mission, SHU Betsie Trew, WCCF President & CEO, discusses WCCF Gives and its impact on the Washington Community. How has WCCF Gives been received by local donors? Donors appreciate the convenience and excitement of WCCF Gives. We are always delighted to hear comments such as "you hit a home run with your day of giving" and "the community foundation has become the charitable anchor of our county" from donors. It's inclusive. With a minimum gift of only $25, it is accessible for many givers. And since the donor selects the charity or charities that will benefit from the contribution, Gives Day donors are vested in the outcome. SLO What is the most significant challenge in administering WCCF Gives? The costs. There are significant staff costs associated with the day, and our annual out-of-pocket costs average about $20,000 per year. While some community foundations charge a fee to cover the costs, we have no plans to follow suit. WCCF Gives is our chance to serve as a community leader. The generosity of our community partners has also enabled us to provide an annual bonus pool of $100,000 and cover the credit card fees since 2020. $.000 WCCF Gives: 10 Years & $10 Million in Cumulative Grant-Making! We are currently in the process of making some exciting enhancements to www.wccfgives.org for 2023. Our objective is to not only freshen the look of the site but also to incorporate some necessary technical upgrades and security features. We also are excited to introduce more charity education opportunities to ensure that the participants are maximizing this event's potential.
